Bengaluru: Bengal Tigers representing West Bengal and Ludhiana Sparx representing Punjab emerged as champions at the FIBA Asia 3x3 Quest – India that concluded at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday.
In a hard fought final, Bengal Tigers overcame Punjab team Ludhiana Steelers 22-17 in the men’s final to take home a cheque of Rs. 75,000. Ludhiana Steelers were richer by Rs. 50,000.
In the women’s section, Ludhiana Sparx earned their Rs. 75,000 pay check beating Tamil Nadu Tigers. The latter earned Rs. 50,000 for their efforts.
All the four finalists will thus represent India in the South Asian Basketball Association Quest stop.
In the hardliners final, Tamil Nadu Tigers defeated Hyderabad Tigers 22-13 and Karnataka women beat Bengal Tigress 10-6 to take the third place and a cheque for Rs. 25,000 each.
The FIBA Asia Quest 3x3 – India Qualifiers was a first of its kind FIBA 3x3 event organised under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India featuring 12 city-based teams in two categories (men and women) representing BFI's affiliated units.
The winners and runners-up of the FIBA Asia Quest 3x3 – India Qualifiers will represent India at the South Asian Basketball Association (FIBA Sub-Zone) Quest stop. The SABA Quest stop carries a total prize money of USD 10,000 with the top teams going on to the Quest Final.
Mr. T. Suneel Kumar IPS, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner was the chief guest and gave away the prizes along with Basketball Federation of India president Mr. K Govindaraj, MLC and Basketball Federation of India Secretary General Mr. Chander Mukhi Sharma.
